Saline Middle School Hornet Highlights for Sunday, October 24, 2020

 Principal's Message:  

As a follow up to Mr. Graden’s message on Wednesday, October 21st, we would like to clarify the following:

  • Saline Middle School will remain in a hybrid model at least through the end of the first trimester.

  • There will be a webinar on Thursday, October 29th at 6:00 pm explaining in-person versus remote for families.  Look for link soon.

  • The first trimester will have a NEW end date of Tuesday, November 24th.

  • The second trimester will begin on Monday, November 30, 2020.

  • Parent-Teacher conferences will still occur on Wednesday, November 18th and Thursday, November 19th.  More information will come from your student’s teacher soon.

  • A survey concerning your student’s learning preference for the second trimester will be released on Thursday, November 5th and will be due on Sunday, November 8th. Look for the survey through K-12 Insight.

Also, it continues to be imperative that absences are reported through the front office with specific symptoms, even remotely. Please call the Saline Middle School front office to report attendance at 734-401-4600; press #1 for attendance OR use the Google Form.

1.  School Pictures Round 3!  

Another opportunity to take/retake school pictures will be on Monday, November 2nd from 8:00 am -10 am in the gymnasium.  Virtual students, please park in the back parking lot near the gym and enter through the gym door.

3.  The 5th Corner Teen Center - Fall 2020 Survey (for Students in Grades 5-12)

Like many facilities, the Saline 5th Corner Teen Center is contemplating how to open their facility safely and meet the needs of the students who have come to love the programs and opportunities it provides. If you have interest in the 5th Corner Teen Center for your student(s), please complete The 5th Corner Teen Center - Fall 2020 Survey by October 30th for each of your students to help them in thinking about the best ways to meet student needs at this time! Please contact Alex Schukow (schukowa@salineschools.org) if you have questions regarding the survey.

4.  Attention any 6th-8th grade students that love math!

We are kicking off this year's MathCounts meetings on Monday, November 2nd.  

Here are the details:
  • Meetings will be Mondays from 3:15 - 4:00pm through February, starting November 2nd!
  • Meetings will be held via Zoom while in Hybrid Model
  • We will work through fun puzzles and challenge problems together to develop critical thinking skills that connect to math
  • There is no "official" sign-up!  Just email Ms. Reik (reikk@salineschools.org) if you are interested and you will be sent the Zoom link.  
  • Can't make it every week? That's fine...just attend when you can!  ALL are welcome!

Attendance:  Please remember that if your child is going to be absent, even remotely, please call the Saline Middle School front office to report attendance at 734-401-4600; press #1 for attendance OR use the Google Form.  

Grades:  Please check Powerschool as many teachers have begun to enter grades.  Please contact the technology department here if you are having difficulty accessing Powerschool.

Breakfast and lunch continue to be free for ALL students as long as Federal funding allows.

Office Loop:  At the end of the day, please pick-up students in the pick-up loop near the auditorium as buses do arrive at Saline Middle School very close to the bell at 2:54 pm.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.
