Class of 2025 Transitions to Saline High School (8th to 9th Grade)-Updated May 30, 2021
Parents of the Class of 2025, Saline High School is excited to invite the Class of 2025 to SHS for a tour over the next two weeks! Students are divided into groups by Science teacher and will come on their designated days. This is normally a tour that would take place earlier in the school year, but we wanted to be sure to get the students over here before the summer break so they had a chance to experience a bit of Saline High School before they left for the summer. The groups will depart SMS during 2nd or 5th hour (see schedule below). They will tour the classroom wings and have an opportunity to see some of the South and West Washtenaw Consortium programs while they are here. They will rotate through the school and get an overview of what SHS has to offer. Tuesday, June 1 (2nd hour): Fanning and Fiske Wednesday, June 2 (2nd hour): Anastasoff Monday, June 7 (5th hour): Engelhuber Students who are currently learning virtually can also attend the tour. They should plan on arriving through the West entrance of Saline High School (Athletic side) no later than 9:20 am for 2nd hour classes and 1:30 pm for 5th hour classes. We will walk with them to join the rest of the group on the East side. Any student who wishes to opt-out of this opportunity should fill out the form linked here. These students will remain in the Middle School Media Center for the duration of the trip. A virtual tour will be made available in the summer as well as other opportunities to attend should this option not be viable for your student at this time. Please note, there is a group of students who are already scheduled for a tour on Tuesday, June 1. They will have all of the same experiences as the students on this tour and should plan to attend their previously scheduled event. We look forward to showing the Class of 2025 everything there is to offer at SHS! Go Hornets! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Saline High School Honors English Placement Test Information:
Any students who are interested in trying to place into Honors English 9 are invited to take a placement test which will be given on Friday, February 5th at 10 a.m. Students MUST sign up by this Friday with your student's teacher if they would like to receive the Zoom link to take the placement test on February 5th.
There are multiple components to determining placement including the objective test, a writing prompt (which all students will complete in class during the week of February 1st), the fall NWEA reading percentile score, and an “Independent Student Score” which is determined by each student’s ELA teacher’s observation of work completion, motivation, and application of ELA skills and concepts.
The objective portion of the test is what students will be completing if they choose to take the placement test on February 5th. It consists of 70 multiple choice questions about reading passages, literary techniques & devices, and sentence correction items. I will be providing students with links to some similarly structured tests if they would like to familiarize themselves with this type of standardized test.
Students who take the placement test will be expected to log into the Zoom link promptly by 10 a.m. on Friday, February 5th and to keep their cameras on during the test in an effort to promote and monitor academic integrity. For more information, please reach out to your student's English teacher.
Saline High School Science Placement Test:
The Saline Middle School Science Department will be administering the Science Placement Test on Monday, February 8th and Tuesday, February 9th during your student's Science class. Please see your teacher for further details.

Testing Out: 8th Grade Students interested in testing out of courses. Per the Saline Area Schools' School Board Policy:
The intent of "testing out" is to provide exceptionally able students options beyond what they might have if required to take basic level courses in which they have already mastered the material. The "testing out" process is not established for students to do independent study to gain the knowledge to pass the test. It is intended for students who have acquired the knowledge and skill, which are to be taught.
If you are interested in your student testing out of a course or courses, please go to: https://www.salineschools.org/schools/saline-high-school/school-resources/
