Saline Middle School Hornet Highlights for Sunday, October 4, 2020

Principal's Message:   Thank you for a successful first week of hybrid!  We continue to be incredibly impressed with our students and staff and their ingenuity in our new normal.  

Wednesday, October 7th is Count Day. This is an important day for Saline Area Schools because attendance on this day largely determines how the District will be funded for this school year. 

 

Therefore, on this day, it will be necessary for us to make a "2-way interaction" with each student.

This will mean that all teachers (responsible for taking attendance) will coordinate with their students

to be LIVE on this day at the beginning of their class (es). This will primarily be coordinated by

a LIVE Zoom call for those students who will be at home (virtual mode) and an in-person attendance check

for the students who will be in buildings on this particular Wednesday. This doesn't mean that the students

need to stay LIVE all day if that wasn't already the initial plan with the teacher (s). This will look different

at the elementary level as it does at the secondary level. 


If a student is sick or unable to be checking in on this day, there is a process to monitor the student's

attendance before and after Count Day for a certain period of time. However, the easiest way to capture

attendance on this day is to have your child present for the LIVE check-in / activity.

Please help monitor your child's teachers' plans for this day in order to have as many students checking in for

attendance on October 7th as possible.

1.  Attendance:  Please remember that if your child is going to be absent, even remotely, please call the Saline Middle School front office to report attendance at 734-401-4600; press #1 for attendance OR use the Google Form.  

2.  Grades:  Please check Powerschool as many teachers have begun to enter grades.  Please contact the technology department here if you are having difficulty accessing Powerschool.

3.  Breakfast and lunch continue to be free for ALL students as long as Federal funding allows.

  Principal's Message:     It is hard to believe that this year is coming to an end and this is the last SMS Hornet Highlights of the year.  Thank you does not seem to be sufficient for what you have been through.  The support that you have given (and continue to give) your students did not go unnoticed.  Thank you for your flexibility, patience and tenacity as we worked through this pandemic.  We wish you a relaxing, fun and refreshing summer!   To our 8th grade families, we wish you all of the best as you enter high school with your students.  It has been a pleasure being your principal (again) for your last year of middle school.  Thank you for the warm and gracious welcome and I know that your students will accomplish amazing things, whether academically, athletically, musically, or in an organization that serves the students of Saline High School or beyond!  The lessons that they have learned during this pandemic will serv...

Saline Hornet Highlights for Sunday, March 7, 2021

  Principal's Message:    As we prepare for the start of trimester 3, we have two half days on Thursday, March 11th and Friday, March 12th.  March 11th is an in-person day for our GOLD students while Friday, March 12th is asynchronous virtual 1/2 day.  Please note that our buses WILL be running for our in-person students on Thursday and our day ends at 11:20 am. If your student will be making a change in learning preference (in-person to virtual or virtual to in-person), you will be hearing from us via email on Tuesday or Wednesday.  Thank you for your patience as we work through the learning preference changes.
